Pine City Ambassadors: A Success Story
2010-2011

The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the 2011 graduating class of Pine City Ambassadors for their hard work and dedication throughout their term. The group consisted of 15 seniors from the Jackson area who were selected based on academics, citizenship, leadership and character.

"I am excited about the wonderful adventures that life holds for the ambassadors. They all have the opportunity to continue to learn and build upon the leadership, citizenship and academic excellence they have already exemplified. We wish them much success in their future endeavors," said Chamber Director LaShaunda Holly.

The nine month junior leadership program is designed to develop youth leadership skills that will enable the high school seniors to work and serve their community collaboratively. Each month the students joined their peers in various locations for dynamic afternoons designed to provide them with opportunities for personal growth. Speakers were invited from all over the state to facilitate the meetings.

The workshop topics included in this year's term included an Orientation, Beginning Retreat, Leadership Enhancement I & ll, Public Safety Day, Local Government and Economic Development. The ambassadors also assisted with the Chambers Back To School Breakfast, Annual Meeting, Fall Festival, Christmas Parade, Spring Jubilee and Spring Clean-Up.

"I would also like to thank Mayor Long and the city council members for their continuous support of our program; to the parents for allowing us to work with such fine young men and women; and to this years advisor Clint Brown," said Holly.

All of the ambassadors have successfully completed the program and each one will receive a $650 scholarship to the college/university of their choice. The students are as follows:

Pine City Ambassador Junior Leadership Program Application

The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce is currently recruiting participants for the Pine City Ambassador Junior Leadership Program.

The program is designed to develop youth leadership skills that will enable the students to work and serve their community. Students from diverse backgrounds gain an expanded knowledge of their communities, develop new relationships, and acquire skills in order to assure a more active and effective volunteer role.

The monthly workshops are facilitated by a faculty of experienced community leaders and professionals. A variety of learning methods including tours, onsite visitations, presenters, role-playing and skills practice sessions are incorporated.

Topics throughout the nine-month program include Leadership Skills Development I & II, Business & Industry Day, Local Government, Public Safety Day and Economic Development. Students also attend a one-day retreat to get acquainted as the ambassador "team" and participate in team building activities.

The students also assist with the Chamber’s special events. These include the Back to School Breakfast, Annual Meeting, Fall Festival, Christmas Parade, Spring Clean-Up and Graduation.

"The objective of the program is to build awareness of the current challenges and opportunities that exist in our community. The students become passionate about working with one another to step forward and assume leadership roles in our area." said Chamber Director, LaShaunda Holly.
